Every Child Deserves to be Photographed
There is a moment in every parent's life when they realize their child sees the world a little differently. For me, that moment came when my son was seven years old and diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome.
He was always a bit hyperactive, particular about things, and struggled in social situations in ways that were hard to explain to others. Knowing what society expected of him and navigating that gap has been one of the greatest challenges of his life, and ours. Because his differences weren't always visible to the outside world, people didn't always understand. They just saw the behavior. And as his parent, I felt the weight of their judgment every single day.
It is one of the most isolating experiences a parent can have.
I share this not for sympathy, but because I want you to know I get it. Really, truly get it. When you walk into a session with your child and you're already bracing yourself for what might happen, I want you to exhale. You are in a safe place.
What a Session Looks Like With Us
Every child is different. Every diagnosis tells a different story. I go into each session with an open mind, genuine patience, and a deep sensitivity for what your child needs in that moment.
If your child needs more time to warm up, we take more time. If they need to move around, make noise, or take a break, we can do that. If they yell, or say something unexpected, or completely refuse to cooperate for a few minutes, I've heard it, I've lived it, and I will not flinch or judge. Not even a little.
What I will do is wait. I will praise. I will be silly, patient, and kind. And when your child is ready even for just a fleeting moment I will be ready too.
I treat every child with the same love and respect I'd want for my own son. Because every child, regardless of ability, deserves to see themselves the way the people who love them do joyful, beautiful, and worthy of being celebrated.
